Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies, in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed. This world in arms is not spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of its labourers, the genius of its scientists, the hopes of its children.
-Dwight D Eisenhower, 1953

This is a fantastic quote. Now I, too, like Ike!
Thanks for this quotation - it seems very apt.
It makes me feel terribly sad - how much is being stolen from humanity with every bomb that is dropped.
Hi Barry,
Hope you're doing well.
I came across this piece by Deepak Chopra the other day. Thought you'd like it....especially the reference to Dharma!

Hi Barry,
Thanks for a great site! Your quotes are well chosen and thought provoking! In many ways I guess the path of a quaker is a true Dharma!
I did quite a bit of research on Hindu Christian encounter in a few years ago (I was particularly enthralled by the work of Dom Bede Griffiths, and Swami Abhishiktananda). However, Merton, Teilhard de Chardin and a few other folks also managed to feature quite prominently.
Take a look at my blog (which is a mix of theology, spirituality, and a lot of other stuff). http://www.spirituality.org.za/blogger.html
I have a friend, Peter Woods, who is very much into Christian Buddhist encounter. His blog is http://www.peterwoods.blogspot.com.
Keep up the great work! I'll be sure to stop by again.
Regards,
Dion
